Next week, Apple will launch ‘Glowtime,’ a special live stream event. The iPhone 16 is expected to drop, but the tech giant remains tight-lipped on official details. Rumors of new features have been swirling. Out of the many predictions buzzing online, here’s what we believe you’ll see at ‘Glowtime.’
The Event: ‘Glowtime’
The name of the event hints at advancements in OLED or MicroLED displays. Many tech analysts believe ‘Glowtime’ could mean improved energy efficiency, brightness and color accuracy across all new Apple products, not just the iPhone 16. Another possibility is showcasing new always-on display (AOD) capabilities or enhanced night mode features for the iPhone 16.
The Unveiling: New iPhone 16 Features
Design-wise, hardware for the iPhone 16 is largely expected to stay the same—save for (slight) sizing changes, more color options, and a small camera bump added to the back of the phone, near the lens. The mini bump is part of a new vertical camera, accommodating a different lens system.
Major operating upgrades for users could include:
– Wi-Fi 7: Hundreds of companies belong to the Wi-Fi Alliance, a group that develops Wi-Fi tech; and certifies whether products like the iPhone 16 are approved for the latest generation of Wi-Fi connectivity. The iPhone 16 line is expected to adopt Wi-Fi 7 technology, making download speeds and connectivity faster.
– A New “Capture” Button: It is believed that Apple will be adding a “capture” button to help iPhone 16 users take pictures and video more often, easily and in-focus.
– Vertical Camera Lens & AI-Powered Photography: The iPhone 16 line is expected to have a new vertical lens camera arrangement, enhanced low-light capabilities, and AI-driven photography features; all designed to let users capture more visually complex, professional imagery and take better advantage of VR/AR tools or software.
– A New A-Series Chip: The new model may have a faster A18 chip, which will offer higher performance and improved power efficiency. Updating the operating chip will allow users to do much more with less; the next-generation A18 chip for the iPhone 16 is believed to better accommodate tools/software with AI tech.
Aside from the iPhone 16 line, ‘Glowtime’ could also spotlight other products. Apple might present updates to the Apple Watch, including new health-tracking features. There also might be announcements related to Apple’s AR/VR headset, offering new ways to experience augmented and virtual realities.
‘Glowtime’ is highly anticipated because it signals the tone and direction for Apple’s universe of products, throughout 2025. The event will stream on September 9th at 10 am, P/T; you can watch it on YouTube Live, Apple TV or directly at apple.com.
