This afternoon, President Trump was acquitted on both articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate needed 67 votes to convict Trump. For Article I, the vote came down to 48 supporting a verdict of guilty vs. 52 not guilty. On Article II, 47 senators supported a guilty verdict while 53 voted not guilty. Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, was the only Republican to break with the party and vote against Trump (on Article I). NPR explains more.

A team of experts have made a major breakthrough: certain cancers can be detected 35 years before diagnosis. Researchers looked at 47 million genetic changes from 38 cancer types to determine how early detection could occur. The breakthrough means that in the future, diagnosis could take place through a simple blood test, decades before symptoms are even present; thereby revolutionizing treatment options. The discovery was made through the Pan-Cancer Project, a global group of scientists dedicated to mapping common patterns of mutation in whole cancer genomes. Learn more here.
