New UK Law Will Ban ‘Cyberflashing’

The British government has announced plans to create a new criminal offense; “Cyberflashing.” Under the proposed legislation, anyone who sends unsolicited sexual images online can face up to two years in prison. Individuals who attempt to send unsolicited sexual content through dating apps, social media messaging, Bluetooth and Airdrop or uncompleted image previews can also be charged. Cyberflashing will carry the same sentencing weight as indecent exposure. The new law is part of the government’s efforts to update the Online Safety Bill (first drafted in May 2021), which will be introduced later this week.
