Hugs are small but powerful acts of connection, and our latest infographic highlights how their frequency varies throughout the week. According to a scientific study published in the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior; adults hug at different frequencies throughout the week. Each day has a certain average, with weekends having the most hug-filled days (likely due to more social interactions). On weekdays, adults average about four hugs per day, reflecting busier routines. The study also tracked the amount of people separately hugged per day; the average was four different people. So while the number of hugs on a weekday is roughly four, a large share of the study’s participants are not experiencing them from just one individual. Patterns in hugging are obviously influenced by culture and personal preferences. But as we celebrate World Kindness Day 2024, let’s embrace the power of touch and connection. A simple hug can reduce stress, boost happiness, and strengthen bonds, reminding us that kindness starts with small, heartfelt gestures.
